Spring Fling Preparations

Spring is in the air and preparations for this year's Spring Fling are underway!!  Please mark Friday, June 7th on your calendar and plan now to attend this fun, family event.  This event is one of Glen Stewart Primary's main fundraiser's, with proceeds being used to better our playground/outdoor areas.  This is a major event with many game stations, new-to-you table, face paining and of course the amazing dessert cafe.  With such an action packed evening we do require many volunteers.  Volunteer forms will be sent home at a later date or you many contact the Home and School committee at glenstewarthomeandschool@gmail.com . Please stay tuned for more updates....

Home and School would like to send out a huge thank you to those parents that kindly donated such delicious cupcakes before March Break.  We were able to raise just about $350 to go towards purchasing new gymnastics equipment.

Our next Home and School meeting will be held on April 8th at 6:30pm in the literacy lab.  Feel free to bring your children if this makes it easier for you.  The computer lab will be open as well as some colouring/activity sheets will be provided.  The agenda will be located on the Blog and on the Facebook page prior to the meeting.  The dates for the remaining meetings for this school year are May 13th and June 17th, at 6:30pm.

Call for Glen Stewart Primary Home & School Executive!

Our Annual General Meeting for the Glen Stewart Primary Home and School Association is Monday, February 11 at 6:30pm in the Glen Stewart Primary Literacy Lab.  At this meeting we will be voting on new or returning Executive for the Association. If you are interested in becoming part of the Executive, please contact us at glenstewarthomeandschool@gmail.com.  Also at this meeting, we will be voting on the distribution of a substantial amount of funds to many areas of the school.  If you would like to view the “wish list” of proposed distribution of funds, please visit the Glen Stewart Primary office.

What is the Home and School Association?

The Home and School Association is comprised of parents of students at Glen Stewart Primary.  Our objective is to foster cooperation between parents and teachers, so parents can be informed, constructive partners with educators.  Our goal is to obtain the best for each child in our school community.

We achieve these objectives and goals through monthly meetings with parents and administrators to discuss current concerns.  Through the Executive and parent volunteers we conduct fundraising events such as the Christmas Craft Fair, Spring Fling, coupon booklets, magazine drive, bake sales and movie nights.  Last year we raised over $28,000.  This money purchased the Remo Health Rhythms for the Music program, Trapezoid and Incline Foam Rolls for Physical Education and leveled books for the Literacy Lab.  Home and School Association funds assist administration in providing the best for each child at Glen Stewart Primary. Would you like to contribute your opinions on where this money should be spent?  Come to a Home and School Association meeting!!  Your opinion counts!

Who is on the Executive?

The executive consists of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Co-Secretary.  These are elected positions, with a term of 1 year and are eligible for re-election for three consecutive years.

What does the Executive do?

Chair  - Chairs all Home and School Association meetings.  The Chair is the official spokesperson for the Association.  He or she supervises the general management of the affairs of the Association, and performs duties incidental to the office.

Vice-Chair – In absence of the Chair, presides as chairperson at all meetings of the Association.  The Vice-Chair performs the duties of the Chair in the Chairs absence and performs other duties assigned by the Chair or the Executive.

Treasurer - Receives and holds all monies of the Association.  The Treasurer keeps an accurate record of all receipts and disbursements.  He or she pays out monies as determined by the Association and prepares financial reports to be presented to the Association.

Secretary and Co-Secretary – Keeps a written record of the proceedings and attendance at all Association meetings, and makes this information available to Association members.  He or she also performs other duties assigned by the Chair or the Executive.

Your Participation

As a parent of a student attending Glen Stewart Primary, you are a member of the Home and School Association.  Your role is to attend as many meetings as possible.  At those meetings you can expect to hear the principle’s report on school activities and initiatives, the Chair’s report on Home & School activities and fundraising initiatives, members questions and concerns, as well as being asked for your opinion and vote on where Home and School funds should be spent.

Keeping Updated on the Home and School Association

You get in touch with us at glenstewarthomeandschool@gmail.com or visit us on our Glen Stewart Primary Home and School blog www.homeandschool-glenstewart.blogspot.ca, or become a member of the Glen Stewart Primary Home and School Facebook page.
